This image, taken on Jan 26 2014 at 07:11 UCT, is the result of the composition of 6 individual RGB exposures, 300 seconds each, captured using the T3 telescope of service (150mm, f7.3) in Mayhill, New Mexico.

SN 2014J is a Type Ia supernova. Since galaxy Messier 83 is distant about 11 million light years from our galaxy, SN 2014J is the closest supernova of the same type discovered in the latest 40 years.
