C/2013 V1 (Boattini) on Dec 29 2013

Comet C/2013 V1 Boattini on Dec 29 2013

Comet C/2013 V1 (Boattini) captured on a 300 seconds exposure on Dec 29 2013. The comet is currently 220 million kilometers from Earth and 331 million kilometers from the Sun. It appears very small, around 11th magnitude when compared with nearby stars, probably a bit brighter than JPL ephemerides prediction for total magnitude, which is…

Image: Comet C/2012 X1

Comet C/2012 X1 imaged on Dec 28 2013. This image is the result of stacking 6 different luminance exposures, 120 seconds each. Stacking and deconvolution performed with MaxIM DL, final adjustments done with Adobe Photoshop. C/2012 X1 is currently approaching perihelion, which will be reached on Feb 21 2014. Comet 290P/Jager on Dec 23 2013

Image: Comet 290P/Jager

This image captured on Dec 23 2013 using iTelescope Telescope 11 (508mm diameter, f/4.5), shows periodic comet 290P/Jager close to Star Hipparcos 31771 (magnitude 5.57). The viewing conditions were not ideal because of the presente of the Moon, and also the telescope focus turned out to be not perfect in this image. Comet 290P is…

New Feature: Multiple Objects in Trackers

The tracker pages can now show multiple objects simultaneously. This new feature allows to track approaches and relative positions between different objects. This could be interesting for instance to track spacecraft approaching other Solar System objects. The following screenshot shows the current relative position of the Rosetta Spacecraft and Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Rosetta will complete its approach…
